Living in Madrid

Madrid feels like a city that actually understands how to live. There’s structure, but it doesn’t dominate everything. Work happens, but so does long lunch, late dinners, and a social life that doesn’t feel squeezed into the margins.

It’s not the cheapest option, especially compared to Eastern Europe or Southeast Asia, but for Western Europe it’s relatively manageable. You get great public transport, strong culture, and a lifestyle that naturally pulls you outside.

The adjustment is mostly cultural. Things move slower, bureaucracy can test your patience, and schedules don’t always match what you’re used to. But once you settle in, it’s hard to go back to a more rushed way of living. Madrid doesn’t try to optimize your life. It just makes it more enjoyable.
